Karoo to Coast mountain bike race on September 22

The Karoo to Coast Mountain Bike Race is on September 22 and our growers and friends from the Langkloof Area will be participating.

The race starts at 08h00 in Uniondale. If you’re around, make a point of supporting the riders and cheering them on.

The Lions Karoo to Coast is a 100km offroad race from UNIONDALE to KNYSNA via the Prince Alfred’s Pass and is not for the faint-hearted and entries are already closed.

REGISTRATION
Date – Saturday 21st September 2013 in Uniondale from 15:00 – 21:00
Late registration – collection of entry packs (NO ENTRIES)
06:00 – 06:45 Sunday 22nd September 2013

START TIME
Sunday 22nd September 2013 at 08.00

CUT OFF
The cut off is at the Kom se Pad / Knysna turn off at 14:30 and the Knysna High School at16:00 due to the half an hour delay of the start to 08:00. This delay is due to the road works / STOP/GO between Knysna and George. There will be seven start groups with approximately five minute intervals in between each group.

TIMING
The event will be timed by Racetec and transponders can be purchased at registration in Uniondale. No transponder, no result and no prizes.

ALLOCATION OF RACE NUMBER AND SEEDING
Seeding will be done by Racetec after the 10th September and riders will be sent their race numbers via email after this date. Seeding will be based on Karoo To Coast rider results in 2011 & 2012, as well as the Pick n Pay Weekend Argus Cycle Tour 80km – 2012 and the PPA seeding index.

LATE ENTRIES
There will BE NO LATE entries whatsoever as all entries have CLOSED. There are around 4000 entries at present.

SUBSTITUTIONS
Riders may substitute entries but this process only takes place at registration. The new rider must bring the proof of entry the person who is no longer riding receives after 12th September. They must fill in a new entry form at registration and bring this form to enquiries at registration where a R20 admin fee will be charged to change the data. The rider will most probably receive the race number that they “inherited” from the previous rider.

WHAT TO CARRY
Riders are encouraged to take sufficient energy bars/food for your estimated time in the saddle. Please carry at least two full water bottles with your drink of choice and preferably a full “Camelbak” if you have one. Riders should be able to fix a puncture and may want to carry their cellphones. If you are allergic to any medication etc – please indicate this on your person when riding. There will be 8 waterpoints on the route.
