Tru-Cape growers search for Big!
Tru-Cape growers are competing for who can produce the biggest apple or pear. In the Pears a Cheeky weighed-in at of 554g, but then a 720g Cheeky took the lead until the current winner, a Packham’s Triumph pear weighing 972g from the farm Forelle, where pears have been grown for over a century was crowned champion thus far.
The largest Royal Gala Apple tipped the scales at 370g until two Red Delicious type apples, a varietal known for producing large apples weighed-in at 645g and 663g respectively from De Eiken Farm.
