The 17th Shorin-Ryu Shorinkan National Championships were held in Ceres, one of Tru-Cape Fruit Marketing’s grower areas, in the Northern regions of the Boland, for the first time ever, over two days on October 7th & 8th.
When sensei Andries Douglas, a fourth degree black belt and a member of Shorin-Ryu South Africa’s executive board, put in a bid to host this esteemed annual tournament, he did so for development reasons – although he realised that the task would be a strenuous one. Athletes came from various provinces to participate in kata, unisons, kumite and kobudo (weapons).
