Turn your passion and creativity into funds to help breast cancer treatment.

Tru-Cape invites you to use your creative flair and passion to help raise funds during Breast Cancer Awareness month with an initiative supported by Pink Lady ® apples on October 19 in Durbanville.

Being diagnosed with Breast Cancer and plucking up the courage to fight the disease is one thing in itself but imagine not being able to go for your treatment because you do not have the funds to cover transportation to and from the clinic. This is the reality for many women who are diagnosed with breast cancer at the Tygerberg Hospital’s Breast Clinic.

Since 2010 when the first Crafts for cancer workshop was held, Pink Lady® apples have made this an annual event.  Tickets cost R250 each and the full value of the ticket is donated to the Tygerberg Hospitals Breast Clinic Transport Fund. Liza Matthews, Marketing Manager for Pink Lady® said: “We chose this event, because although treatment costs are covered by Government, some patients just cannot afford the transport costs to and from the hospital for regular radiotherapy sessions. This year, as our craft, we are making a gratitude journal because whatever is happening in our lives, we need to take time to stop and think what we have to be grateful for in our lives, because there is always so much!”

“Tru-Cape is proud to be associated with Pink Lady® apples and to co-sponsor such an inspiring event. Our wish is to see more patients being able to live healthy, happy lives.” Added Aileen Zulch for Tru-Cape Fruit Marketing.

Prof. Justus Apffelstaedt, Head of the Breast Clinic, Tygerberg Hospital, will be giving a talk on Breast Cancer and Breast Health. Prof. Justus Apffelstaedt said: “Many of our patients have to make do with less than R 500 per month; transport to Tygerberg often costs R 150 for a single visit. The choice between having enough to eat for the family and transport for therapy is stark.”

Pledge your support for those who need help in their fight against breast cancer by attending the Pink Lady® Crafts for Cancer Workshop and be creative in the beautiful surroundings of D’Aria.

Matthews added: “This year we would like to give the tea room a kettle and canisters for tea, coffee and sugar to brighten up the room for those waiting for their consultations.  In the past we have painted the tea room and put up some of our previous crafts for Cancer creations that were donated by the lovely ladies attending the events.  We want to do everything we can to make the time spent at the clinic more comfortable and informative.”
