Eselfontein MTB fund-raising race in October this year

Event cancellations have become such an occurrence as a result of Covid that an event not being cancelled or postponed is good news.

While the Tru-Cape Eselfontein MTB Race will be from October 8 to 10 this year, organiser Janene Malherbe says “it will be a bit different from previous years but there will still be free camping and we have new Glamping tents available too.”

According to Malherbe, riding distances in days one and three will be shortened as this year they are only using tracks on their own farm and not neighbouring farms as they did in previous years. “There will still be the famous water-points,” Malherbe says, adding: “And, we will be limiting numbers to only 300 riders.” Malherbe says while there will be medics they will only be active during the events themselves. Prizes are also different this year and will only be awarded as lucky draws as the event will be a Fun Ride.

“Friday, October 8, 2021 is a 30km route, Saturday, October 9 is a 55km route and Sunday, October 10 is a 40km ride. Entires are via EntryNinja.com and tent bookings are via admin@antoinetteevents.co.za Additional information about camping accommodation is via Famke on 028-425-2729,” Malherbe says.

“Aside from being a great race and wonderful opportunity to compete as family together in a glorious setting, the Tru-Cape Eselfontein MTB is a fund-raising event for local Ceres charities which, now more than ever before, need the funds our event provides. Monies go to local schools and homes for the aged. Over the years, hundreds of thousands of Rands have been donated because of this event,” she says.

Eselfontein Farm, a member at Ceres Fruit Growers, grows Tru-Cape apples and pears and also raises dairy cattle.

As in previous years the swimming pool, food and beverage vendors and great vibe will also be available this year.

Tru-Cape is wholly owned by its growers at Ceres Fruit Growers and at Two-a-Day in the Grabouw Valley. Managing Director, Roelf Pienaar, says Tru-Cape always looks forward to meeting growers and friends at the Eselfontein MTB. “We always have Tru-Cape growers in this event and this year will be no different,” Pienaar ends.

All Covid precautions will be followed.
