FLASH GALA ™ apple roses
Tru-Cape Fruit Marketing has partnered with the Lockdown Recipe Storytelling Facebook Group and sampled some of its most active members with FLASH GALA ™ apples and asked them to suggest recipes. There were many outstanding recipe suggestions some of which we will be sharing here in the next months but, for sheer beauty, we have selected this image and the accompanying post by Sandra Van de Rheede with her permission.
Here’s what she wrote:
Good Afternoon Food Fairies. I used this recipe of Laura/A Beautiful Plate for my Apple Rose Almond tart, crust and frangipani. I omitted the alcohol and lemon zest in the frangipane. Four FLASH GALA ™ apples were used for the apple roses. Cut the apples into thin slices. Sprinkle with the juice of a small lemon and half-a-cup of sugar. Let it macerate for at least one hour. This process softens the apple and makes it extremely pliable to roll the roses. Pat the slices dry with absorbent paper, before forming the roses. Have all the roses rolled and finished to put on the frangipani when it’s ready to go into the oven. After the cake is done, brush the apple roses with a bit of warm apricot jam. Garnish with icing sugar and toasted almond flakes. Thank you Tru-Cape for these gorgeous FLASH GALA ™ apples.”
