Happy birthday to the South African apple industry.

Celebrating the birthday of the South African apple industry on April 17 in its 353rd year are Tru-Cape Fruit Marketing’s (from left to right) Buks Nel, New Varietal Expert of Somerset West, Amanda Fisher, Quality Assurance Intern of Stellenbosch with Oak Valley Estate’s Young Tree Specialist Hansie Boshoff of Grabouw. The celebration was held in Tru-Cape’s Heritage Orchard of apple and Pear varieties no longer in production. Today the fruit industry contributes more than R6 billion to our economy.
