Tru-Cape fuels the fire in Ultimate Braai Master Season 9

South Africa’s favourite apples prove that great flavour starts with great produce — even on the braai.

With a remarkable share of South Africans tuning in across e.tv, eExtra, and eReality, Ultimate Braai Master Season 9 is once again igniting South Africa’s passion for food, fire, and flavour — and this year, Tru-Cape apples are taking their rightful place at the heart of the flames.

From smoked apple sauce and savoury apple sides to caramelised apples straight off the grid, Tru-Cape apples have become the unexpected hero ingredient of the season. Contestants have grilled, smoked, and chopped their way through challenges that prove apples belong not just in desserts, but right alongside steak, chicken, and seafood on the coals.

And this Sunday’s episode is one that apple lovers — and braai enthusiasts — won’t want to miss.
Viewers can expect plenty of creative inspiration on how to bring fresh, flavourful apples to the fire — from smoky sauces to mouth-watering sides that will elevate any braai spread.

“As any chef will tell you, you can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear — and that holds just as true for the braai,” says Ultimate Braai Master judge and celebrity chef Pete Goffe-Wood. “There’s no substitute for good produce. The Tru-Cape apples our contestants were cooking with were next level. These magnificent apples, in the hands of our capable contestants, made for some truly sumptuous eating.”

The series was filmed in Grabouw — one of South Africa’s most scenic regions and part of the heart of Tru-Cape’s apple production — making it the perfect setting for a season fuelled by freshness and fire.

“Filming so close to our orchards in Grabouw makes this season especially meaningful for us,” says Conrad Fick, marketing director at Tru-Cape Fruit Marketing. “You can almost feel the connection between the apples sizzling on the braai and the trees just a few kilometres away. It’s a reminder that every great flavour, even those born of fire, begins with nature and the care that goes into growing quality fruit.”

This season’s All-Stars vs. Wild Cards theme has turned up the heat, as returning champions and finalists face off against daring new contenders in a series of fiery, flavour-packed challenges. Tru-Cape’s naturally sweet, versatile apples have added their own spark of inspiration to the competition, helping contestants craft dishes that balance smoky, savoury, and fresh notes in perfect harmony.

Ultimate Braai Master continues to celebrate South African heritage, creativity, and community — proving that when you start with the best ingredients, the results are pure magic.

For fans who miss the Sunday-night sizzle, every episode is available on eVOD for catch-up, keeping the flames, flavour, and inspiration alive all week long.
