Two-a-Day’s Ricardo a finalist in Agri’s got Talent 2017
The hills may be alive with the sound of music but so are the Grabouw mountains and apple orchards of the Cape. Ricardo Plaatjies, of Two-a-Day in Grabouw, is one of the finalists in the 2017 Agri’s got Talent competition.
Agri’s got Talent, a singing competition and life-skills programme for agricultural workers in the fruit and wine industries, is a joint venture between HORTGRO and VinPro Foundation together with the Western Cape Department of Agriculture.
Of the 72 entries from across South Africa, 10 finalists were selected to attend a week long workshop in Paarl, at the end of July, which will include voice and stage-performance training as well as supportive life-skills development. Of the 10 winners, two come from Two-a-Day, one of Tru-Cape Fruit Marketing’s grower shareholders.

Ricardo Plaatjies of Two-a-Day is a finalist in Agri’s got Talent.
Tru-Cape Managing Director Roelf Pienaar says the news that two finalists, Ricardo Plaatjies and Fredelica Cupido come from Two-a-Day is an indication of the wealth of talent, agricultural and otherwise, within the Tru-Cape family. “We wish both Fredelica and Ricardo all the best of luck with the finals on August 4,” Pienaar says.
Ricardo Plaatjies sang “Still I Rise” from Yolanda Adams’ 1998 Gospel album, Songs from the Heart but will be singing Vusi Nova’s Ndikuthandile in the finals.
“My motivation is my family and friends”, says Plaatjies, “We have a strong bond. They have always supported me and my singing. And, the Lord is my inspiration. If it weren’t for Him, I might not have achieved what I have so far,” he ends.
The gala event on August 4 at Nederburg Wine Estate costs R50 per person and tickets are available via Computicket. Contact Esté Beerwinkel at 021-870-2919 or este@hortgro.co.za
