Grabouw double feature raises R160K for local schools.
Dual healthy-lifestyle Grabouw events on May 6, 2017 helped raise over R160, 000 for community schools.
Both Elma Rossouw, head of finance for Grabouw High School and Catherine Boome, the convener of the fundraising activities for Applewood Primary, said they were pleased with the warm community response towards the events and grateful to headline sponsor Tru-Cape Fruit Marketing.
“As usual it was a stunningly organised event, especially this year, hats off to my new principal, Herholdt Bezuidenhout, as head organiser”, Elma says, “the event attracted over 500 paid entries.”
Tru-Cape Fruit Marketing, the largest exporter of South African apples and pears to over 104 countries, said the double feature attracted both MTB cyclists and trail runners into the Grabouw area while the Harvest Festival component, after the races, was a splendid way to mark the end of a successful picking season in one of the Western Cape’s apple and pear capitals.
Tru-Cape Marketing Director Conrad Fick says: “Tru-Cape supports events that have a healthy lifestyle focus, involve our growers and benefit the community, so these events hit the trifecta meeting all three criteria. Not only does the Tru-Cape Grabouw MTB and the Tru-Cape Applewood Trail Run get our customers to explore the natural beauty of the Grabouw region but they also put much-needed cash into the schools’ coffers.”
